WhatsApp Beta Update: Facebook Stickers, New Group Calling and Contacts Features

WhatsApp has submitted a new updated version of their app through the Google Play Beta Program – meaning you can only get it on Android devices. The version is 2.17.443 and it bring a lot of new features to the table for users to try out before the update goes live.

Let’s see what has the update added or removed.

Sticker Icons

On the Wabetainfo website, we found out that WhatsApp has been thinking for a while to add stickers on the app. This update brings stickers and groups them together in a separate tab, next to the GIF tab. The stickers will be organized to show different reactions (lol, love, sad, wow).

Group Calls

There have been rumors about group calls and this update brings a new hint. We might see group calls in the future, as there is a hidden string in the update that says: ‘Couldn’t switch between voice and video call because this feature isn’t available in group call.’

This means that in the beta update, you will not be able to switch between voice and video calls, so you will have to choose between these two options. This is why the support between voice and video calls has been stopped. They are preparing to bring a new option for the voice and video calls in a group.

Show All Contacts – Removed

This update has removed the option for showing all contacts, in which you also saw the hidden contacts from your contact list. The official WhatsApp FAQ still has the ‘Show all Contacts’ option if you look at the ‘Finding Contacts’ section. It might be just a bug, though.

Other Features

The GIF button has a new layout. Looking back at the groups options, if you are an admin, you can remove or demote a person from that group.

There is also the ‘Reply Privately” feature which has been released by WhatsApp by mistake in this update. With this feature, you can respond privately to a member of the group without others seeing what you did and what you wrote. Soon after it was released, this feature has been removed from this beta version.
