Nothing – no device, no software, no game – is safe from people who wish to do other people harm. It appears that Minecraft is also being targeted by hackers. According to cybersecurity firm, Symantec, Minecraft players need to be concerned about a potential Minecraft add-on that the Google Play Store offers.
The add-on is embedded with a Trojan malware code called Sockbot.
According to Symantec employee Shaun Aimoto, the flexible proxy topology would be able to make use of various network-based vulnerabilities that could go beyond the security boundaries.
Besides the letting the arbitrary network attacks, the infection could cause a plethora of denial of service attacks (DDoS).
It appears that eight of Minecraft-based apps have been compromised with the Trojan, which could mean up to 2.8 million Android devices are in trouble of being infected. Symantec notes that the most targeted countries include the U.S., Germany, Russia, the Ukraine and Brazil. To ensure user safety, Symantec has urged Google to remove the compromised apps to ensure the Minecraft mobile game isn’t a threat.
This isn’t the first case of infected apps in the Google Play Store, and Google needs to come up with a better security system to lower the number of apps uploaded to the system. After all, once an infected app is installed onto a device, they hide by using encryption to trick detection tools.
Therefore, users are urged to download their apps from a reputable source and look at the permissions of the apps. They are also urged to keep their software updated.
Minecraft Developers To Release Super Pack Plus Update For Xbox One X
Minecraft has a new update called Super Pack Plus. It’s an update that will be bundled with the Xbox One X package and set to be released in Spring 2018.
What’s so great about the Super Pack Plus? It has major improvements for users of Xbox One X. For example, Minecraft developers are following suit of other game developers by creating the game in 4K resolution.
There’s been talk that the bundle will be delayed but will include 4K resolution, water visuals and new lighting. There’s been no official target release date for the Super Pack Plus.
The version was created to let direct streamer broadcast thanks to Microsoft Mixer, which was released in October 2017. It lets people play the game through an interactive atmosphere and let players use the stream option in their game to interact with other players. In essence, it betters the player interaction experience.
In the past, it was possible for people to download material from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One, which meant you could download the Xbox 360 Edition to your Xbox One for nothing. This is no longer allowed, and you can’t transfer content any longer.
If you’d like to transfer worlds, you’ll need to have the latest Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and begin the game while connected to your Xbox Live account.
